About
Short Story:
I’m on a mission to jump start my happiness trying a little bit of everything and sharing those experiences with you in my blog. I practice daily gratitude and visioning which seems to do the trick. It shed my cynical outlook replacing it with optimistic peace. I slept better, lost 20 pounds, relationships improved, opportunities came my way.
Wanting to share the power of gratitude and visioning with everyone, I created the iPhone apps, Gratitude Journal and Vision Board. If there’s one thing you learn from visiting my site, please know this. Give thanks and give back. Practice these two acts daily and you will find abundance, peace and purpose.
Long Story
I’m a designer, writer, and yoga-lover living in the the Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Originally from these parts, I made a pilgrimage back to my roots — moving from London, England — in 2006 to spend time with my family.
It’s been a very long time since I lived in this corner of the world. The day after graduation, I packed my car and moved on down the road to the big city. From there, I kept going. I studied in Germany, lived in England, then came home to complete my masters degree. A year of insane studying drove me to the beaches of southern California where I lived with some surfers until I couldn’t take it anymore and needed some intelligent conversation.
From there I moved to Washington DC, then Georgia, then gorgeous Boulder, Colorado, where I picked up a wicked snowboarding addiction. But my heart always longed for Europe and one day my wish came true. A software company sent me to London to start their European division and I was in frequent flier heaven. I jetted around the world, meeting all walks of life, drinking in the nectar of the company credit card. But that all came to an end in 2002 when my posh expat assignment was considered “complete”. Personally, I felt I hadn’t even started yet.
As fate has it, right as I’m suppose to pack it in and head home, I meet my life partner, Colin. So I decided to kick it in London a bit longer, start a company and see where it leads to. Things aren’t so rosy in that big old city when you’re fending for yourself, trying to start a business and save enough money for an insanely overpriced pre-war era home. Stressed just didn’t even start to capture how I felt.
Right when I thought I couldn’t take it anymore, my dad suddenly passed away from a heart attack. I had just flown home to see him for Christmas and a couple weeks later he was gone. Poof. I was crushed.
That’s when small miracles began to happen. We both got job offers back in the States. They even offered to pay to ship us across the pond. And the job was located smack dab where I grew up.
We moved here with just a couple boxes of personal possessions and started all over again from scratch. And I have to say that although I was reluctant at first, I’m now pleasantly surprised by this move. Unlike the other journeys of my past filled with adventure, culture and great food. This journey goes inward to a whole new world.
